Q: Sounds in English are in either of three types of relationships, mention them with a breif explanation to each one of them.
They are
Phone, allophone, & phoneme
Phoneme: the smallest units in sounds system. It refers to sounds that distinguish the meaning of the words in a language.
change one phoneme in a word; change the meaning of a word.
Big /bɪg/ ~ (b~d) dig /dɪg/
Allophone: the realization of the phoneme. They are different versions of a sound type,
/l/ can be dark or light
/p,t,k/ can be aspiration or non ..
When we have a set of phones for one phoneme, we refer to them as allophone.
The changing of the phone, or allophone doesn't change the meaning, but gives us different pronunciation of the same word.
The prefix ( allo) means ((one of a closely related set)) study of language, G.Y.
Thanks for Brainstorming😍
