Introduction to Animal Farm
In 1947 George Orwell said, “Animal Farm was the first book in which I tried, with full consciousness of what I was doing, to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole.” He also stated, “The opinion that art should have nothing to do with politics is itself a political attitude. ... Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it ... it is invariably where I lack a political purpose that I wrote lifeless book...”
Communism and Socialism
A little knowledge of communism will aid one's understanding of Orwell's Animal Farm, for he is beastly in attacking the communist doctrine in the work. Communism is a political doctrine.

“The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”
By: T. S. Eliot.
The Original title of this poem is “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and Other Observations” published in 1915. The present poem as such is just a part of several other poems in the same volume whose title I have mentioned above. T. S. Eliot, a poet, philosopher, thinker, dramatist and critic, was a very salient name throughout the 20th century and is still today.
An Overview
Reconsidering “The Listeners”, “Musee Des Beaux Art”, “The Unknown Citizen”, “Sailing to Byzantium” and “The Second Coming”
Here I intend to present an overview of the poems you have already studied; namely they are: “The Listeners”, “Musee Des Beaux Art”, “The Unknown Citizen”, “Sailing to Byzantium” and “The Second Coming”.
" The Unknown Citizen"
By W. H. Auden
" The Unknown Citizen" is one of Auden's most famous poems; it is taught almost all over the world in colleges interested in Humanities. The phrase " Unknown Soldier" is often used by governments to commemorate those soldiers who die in battle and whose identities are not known for the rest of the army.
The Second Coming by W. B. Yeats
" The Second Coming" is one of Yeats' most mystical and least understandable poems. It belongs to the symbolic and visionary phase of the poet's artistic development. Most of the imageries used in this poem are drawn on his highly mystical and obscure book,
Sailing To Byzantium by W. B. Yeats
W. B. Yeats is an Irish poet. He passed through three phases in his artistic development as a poet. In his early career, he starts as a very delicate romantic poet who travels through imagination to unknown mysterious worlds of courtly love and romance. His soul then was strongly connected to Maud Gonne,
"The Listeners" By Walter De la Mare.
If you go back to your First Year university memories you will find out that you met the character of the " traveler" in your book entitled Prose and Poetry Appreciation. In Ozymandias, the poet also introduces the character of the traveler as a common icon of life experiences obtained through free movement: in classical times it was the character of the " wanderer" , the hermit and the sophist wanderer
Musee des Beaux Arts
" Musee des Beaux Arts " by W. H. Auden is one of the most interesting poems written in the 20th century. The poem builds up an imaginary scenery belonging to a modern place , a museum. The poem is divided into four stanzas, each one of them constitutes a vivid visual picture that readers can imagine or even draw on a paper. I think the best way to understand this poem is by imagining or drawing the pictures it provides in each stanza. The ruling or unifying idea of all the pictures is Man's suffering in this life.
